A healthy challenge is on. Are you up for it? Over 10,000 workers were early 2009, when they were asked to get some motivation for movement and use it in this healthy workplace competition. A 10 week avenue is provided to teams of 4 – to see how fast they can “move” their way – in steps – around a map of Australia/NZ. The prize? Beating their work mates! Weight loss, improved health and illness/injury risk &/or recovery time, decreased diabetes, cancer and heart disease risk; and more powerfully – increased team morale and spirit. Working together in something that is not work – but as a side benefit; increases the productivity at work.
I haven't seen an initiative in my time in the organisation get people as revved up and talking (positively that is). Head of Safety Qld Govt. Safety Department
Ford Health have designed a health initiative that is so “user friendly” it appeals to all employee’s NOT just those already interested in health and fitness. A recent study showed that those who took part in a team-based workplace exercise program took almost half of the number of sick days of their co-workers.
To try to get my steps up for my team in this challenge I have been doing a walk to my letter box every day I am home. Probably doesn't sound like much but it's a half km walk to my letter box! I've started taking my dog for a walk around our yard a couple of times a weekend.
The low cost and minimal set up effort makes it equally as appealing to management.
